No. The short answer is that. Powerball's Wednesday night drawing, which featured a $1.25 billion annuitized jackpot and a $572.1 million one-time cash option, was unmatched by any ticket.
Since two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas split a $1.787 billion reward on September 6, Powerball's top prize has not been won. The winning numbers on Wednesday night were red Powerball 17, 25, 33, 53, 62, and 66.
Five days before Christmas, on Saturday, December 20, Powerball will have its next drawing. In the current jackpot run, it will be the 45th drawing. The cash option is $686.5 million, while the advertised prize is $1.5 billion.
The next drawing for the game will take place on Monday, December 22, if the jackpot is not won. The jackpot would roll over to Christmas Eve if the top prize eludes players once more. Families would undoubtedly be gathered around the television at 10:59 p.m. ET to see if they will receive the most incredible gift.
"This jackpot is set to deliver the ultimate windfall. The jackpot grows with every $2 ticket sold, and a portion of each ticket supports local public programs and services. We encourage everyone to have fun and play responsibly,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO.
There is a one in 292.2 million chance that a ticket will win the lottery.
On Wednesday night, 3,305,638 tickets won some kind of prize, but no one won the jackpot.
Eight tickets identified all five white balls but missed the Powerball, missing the jackpot by the thinnest of margins. Two of those plays doubled their reward to $2 million using the optional $1 add-on Power Play, and six of the plays won $1 million apiece.
The match five prize is only a 2X bonus, even though the Power Play landed on 4X on Wednesday night. The plays that won $2 million were sold in Massachusetts and Arizona. Connecticut, New York (3), Pennsylvania, and Tennessee sold the $1 million winners.
For $50,000 in prizes, 72 tickets matched four of the five white balls and the Powerball. The Power Play was able to treble their payouts to $200K each for an additional 14 of the match four + Powerball.
By matching the Powerball, the Powerball and a white ball, the Powerball and two white balls, or the Powerball and three white balls, the majority of winners—nearly 2.63 million tickets—won $7 or less.
The Powerball prize on Saturday was $1.5 billion, making it the fifth-largest in Powerball history and the seventh-richest in US history.
